General education courses are the foundation of every Keuka College bachelor’s degree. You’ll explore and enhance many different skills — writing, math, ethics, and other disciplines — that are important for your management degree and for everyday life. You can choose from a number of online courses in the Keuka College catalog, or transfer in credits from another accredited college or university, the U.S. military, college-level testing programs, or select international sources.

These courses will introduce you to the latest theories and principles in management, leadership, marketing, human resources, finance, accounting, organizational communication, and organizational dynamics. You’ll be exposed to perspectives on those topics from the humanities and social and behavioral sciences. Through your capstone course, you’ll work closely with extraordinary faculty who are outstanding teachers and working professionals.

Electives will give you the opportunity to learn about the topics you’re interested in most and customize your degree if you need additional credits outside of your management core, general education, and transfer credits.

FIN-312: Financial Management

An examination of the topics of traditional financial management, with an emphasis on working capital management, short-term financing, leverage, capital structure, and discounted cash flow techniques.

HRM-208: Human Resources Management

Aspects of the human resources function operable in business organizations; analysis of employment personnel testing, job classification, wage and salary administration, and performance evaluation; overview of labor relations in American business.

KC-301J: Ingtr St: Leadership

A writing-intensive capstone course for the General Education curriculum that provides students with guidance in their application of interdisciplinary knowledge to problem solving. Students are challenged to practice critical and creative thinking skills, and they are expected to demonstrate competence in oral, written, and other creative modes of expression. This course is open to all majors. This course will foster and integrate student understanding of leadership theory and concepts across an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural spectrum serving as a capstone course to the Keuka College general education requirement. Students will examine the elements of effective leadership in a variety of contexts through multiple lenses. Among key topics of exploration are definitions, roles and responsibilities, role models, skills and attitudes, leadership development, change making, ethical issues, and principle-based leadership. Students will develop an intellectual understanding of leadership and a working model for their own continued lifelong development.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in management occupations is projected to grow 5 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. That growth will result in more than 500,000 new jobs. The formation of new businesses and expansion of existing ones will drive employment growth, requiring more workers to manage these operations. Those in management occupations earned a median salary of $105,660 in 2019, the highest wage of all the major occupational groups. 

In New York State, the numbers are even more promising. The Department of Labor reports that management positions are projected to increase by 12.5%. Managers will earn an average salary of $157,440, a figure that rises to $200,050 with experience.
