As Keuka College gears up to hold a summer retreat devoted to wellness and healthy eating, a pair of College leaders shared their health journeys on a popular national podcast last week.
Keuka College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Brad Fuster and Trustee Emerita and former faculty member Dr. Barbara Allardice ’61 joined Chef AJ on Friday, Feb. 2, for her popular daily YouTube podcast, which boasts 225,000 subscribers.
Chef AJ, a chef, culinary instructor, professional speaker, and author, will be among the presenters when Keuka College hosts Wellness Weekend at the Lake on July 12-14. Presented in conjunction with the National Health Association, the first-of-its-kind regional gathering will feature a diverse range of educational sessions, hands-on workshops, and interactive panel discussions with a special focus on Whole Food, Plant-Based diets.
Both Dr. Fuster and Dr. Allardice experienced transformative changes to their lives and health – including weight loss and recovery from persistent ailments such as diabetes and psoriatic arthritis – upon adopting the more healthful eating habits. They outlined the benefits they experienced while showcasing the opportunity for the public to learn about Whole Food, Plant-Based diets – and healthy lifestyle habits in general – at the College’s summer wellness event.
“Barbara and I each experienced immense improvement in our health after adopting a Whole Food, Plant-Based diet,” said Dr. Fuster. “We were eager to share our stories with Chef AJ’s audience to inspire others, and to invite them to learn more at our Wellness Weekend event this summer.”
Along with Chef AJ, featured speakers at Wellness Weekend on the Lake will include luminaries in the fields of wellness and Whole Food, Plant-Based lifestyles, including Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Michael Klaper, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Gene Baur, Dr. Kerry Graff, Dr. Ted Barnett, and Dr. Barbara Vacarr.
Keuka College’s commitment to promoting a climate of wellness stems from its foundational goal of serving the community. It includes the establishment of a Keuka Wellness Institute, which incorporates aspects of lifestyle medicine, hospitality, the environment, and experiential education.
