The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team won their eighth North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday and in doing so, the Wolves earned their fifth berth into the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament.
On Monday afternoon, the tournament committee announced that Keuka College will face the University of Scranton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 2. Scranton will host the four-team pod that includes the Wolves as well as Brooklyn and Cabrini.
Keuka College has faced Scranton twice in program history, losing both meetings. The most recent contest was in March 2009 when the Lady Royals defeated Keuka in the first round of that year's NCAA Tournament. In Keuka’s four appearances in the NCAA Tournament, the Wolves have never made it past the first round.
The Lady Royals enter the postseason on a 21-game winning streak, taking their third consecutive Landmark Conference championship. Scranton defeated Juniata in overtime to win the conference championship.
The two teams play a similar style of basketball. Both Scranton and Keuka College lead their respective conferences in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, assists per game, and opponents' field goal percentage.
The winner of the game between Keuka College and the University of Scranton will face the winner of the game between Brooklyn College, the CUNYAC Champions, and Cabrini College, the CSAC Champions. Keuka College has never faced either school in the 44-year history of the program.
Tipoff between the Wolves and the Lady Royals will be at 7 p.m. in Scranton.
